Alvaro Negredo has had a great season for Manchester City, and has shown his strength and ability as a striker. Consistently scoring in every competition this season, he will have to get a run of games in the World Cup for Spain. Negredo’s best bet to win the golden boot is 33/1 from Bet365, Sportingbet and BetVictor but goes as low as 25/1 from BetFred. A consistent and impressive goal scorer for most of his career who already has numerous caps for Spain, but the recent emergence of Diego Costa will leave Del Bosque thinking which striker should lead their attack. Negredo is more experienced than Costa at international level, who has already appeared and scored for Spain on numerous occasions. However, the form Costa has been in during 2013/2014 is undeniable at Atletico.
Negredo is high up on the list to potentially be Spain’s top scorer during the tournament at 4/1 from BetVictor, just losing out to Costa at 3/1. After the season he has had it would be unfortunate for Negredo not to get a look in, and the fact that Spain will now be without original striker David Villa it provides other strikers with an opportunity to shine. Whilst certainly capable of scoring many goals for Spain, the competition for the golden ball is fierce. However Spain will probably suit the conditions at Brazil more than some of their rivals which could give them an edge, and could see them advance further and play more games. Negredo could easily be Spain’s top scorer in the competition, but will most likely be part of a rotation system between himself and Costa who have both been in excellent form. Unless he is played regularly and in the majority of Spain’s fixtures, it will be a tough ask to win the golden ball as some of the other players challenging for the award will most likely start every game for their respective international teams.
