It’s a cliche, but it’s something a tournament always has, and, especially for England fans, Group D is probably the ‘Group of Death.’ Consisting of Uruguay, Costa Rica, England and Italy, which ever teams manage to make it out of the group will have had a hard time in doing so.
Group D Runner Up Odds
It’s difficult to predict any teams to win the group or come second, although it it is presumed that Costa Rica are likely to finish bottom. The other three teams can all boast World Class players and, to name a few – Uruguay have Edinson Cavani and of course Luis Suarez, England have Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard, whilst Italy have Andrea Pirlo and Mario Balotelli. In terms of qualification, Uruguay are 1.5 at SkyBet, England are 1.67 at William Hill and Italy are 1.5 at BetFred.
Best Group D Bet
Because it’s very difficult to predict anyone to top Group D, the odds are fairly high for all of the teams. Going back to the 2010 World Cup, Uruguay managed to finish overall in fourth place, losing the third-place playoff to Germany. Uruguay to win the group is 2.88 at SkyBet.
Italy had a dismal campaign in the last World Cup, finishing bottom of a group that contained New Zealand, Slovakia and Paraguay, but they almost erased the memory in Euro 2012 in which they reached the final, only to be beaten 4-0 by Spain. Italy are 2.75 to win the group at PaddyPower.
England are notorious for underachieving at International tournaments, in the last World Cup they were beaten 4-1 by Germany in the last-16 and in Euro 2012 were knocked out by their rivals in Group D, Italy, in the quarter-finals. England are 3.66 to top the group at Betfair.
